Domestic Flights
Turkey's domestic flight network is excellent and surprisingly cheap. Two main airlines:
- Turkish Airlines: More routes, slightly higher fares, free checked bag
- Pegasus Airlines: Budget carrier, cheaper fares, bag fees

Intercity Buses
Turkey's intercity bus network is extensive, comfortable, and covers every corner of the country. Major companies include Metro Turizm, Kamil Koç, Pamukkale, and Süha.
What to expect:
- Modern coaches with AC, WiFi, and reclining seats
- Tea/snack service onboard
- Stops every 2–3 hours at rest stations
- Luggage stored underneath
- Night buses are common for long routes

Dolmuş (Shared Minibus)
Dolmuş are shared minibuses that run fixed routes between nearby towns and to attractions. They're the local public transport backbone outside major cities.
- How to use: Flag one down on the roadside or find the dolmuş station (ask at your hotel). Pay the driver in cash.
- Cost: $0.25–$0.75 per ride
- Frequency: Varies — every 10–30 minutes on popular routes, hourly on rural ones
Rental Cars
Best for the Turquoise Coast and areas with limited public transport. Roads are generally good.
- Cost: $20–$50/day
- Insurance: Take full coverage (kasko)
- Fuel: Expensive by European standards
- Driving style: Assertive. Drive defensively.

Istanbul City Transport
Istanbul has excellent public transport:
- Istanbulkart: Rechargeable card for all public transport. Buy at machines in metro stations. $0.25–$0.50 per ride.
- Metro: 9+ lines covering both European and Asian sides
- Tram: T1 Kabataş–Bağcılar runs through Sultanahmet tourist zone
- Ferry: Cross the Bosphorus for $0.25–$0.50. Scenic and efficient.
- Buses: Extensive network. Istanbulkart required.
- Taxi: Metered. Use BiTaksi or Uber apps when possible.
